Chequered Ink launches pack of 10,000 game assets to combat the rise of generative AI
At Chequered Ink, we’re launching a pack of 10,000 game assets across a variety of genres to give budding developers an alternative to AI.
The asset pack contains over 9,000 graphics for Platformers, RPGs, Puzzle games, Board games and more, as well as over 700 sound effects.
So many developers these days are turning to generative AI for their placeholders, prototypes and even shipped titles.
We know that the use of AI, especially for image and audio generation, is causing a spike in energy demand, bills, and carbon emissions. The most popular AI models are often trained, without permission, on copyrighted content.
That’s why we’ve spent the best part of the past year making and releasing assets for developers to use in their games. Now we’ve gathered all of those files into one big pack of over 10,000 game assets, including exclusive content we’ve never released before.
We want to save developers time and money so they don’t feel the need to turn to AI to make their games. Stories will always be better told when they’re crafted with human hands, even if teams need to turn to existing assets to fill in the gaps in their projects.
The wide range of genres and styles represented in the asset pack will allow developers lots of room for creativity. The simple, clean style of the HD assets makes them easy to adapt and build upon for larger projects.
Meanwhile, the pack also contains thousands of pixel art sprites, for games with a more retro feel. We’ve even included a tool that allows teams to make their own characters by combining different parts – with millions of combinations possible.
This is just the beginning. Our ongoing mission will be to create more and more graphics and sounds for people to use in their games, by hand, so that we can continue to watch new developers flourish without the need for generative AI.
