Everything we did in 2025

Everything we did in 2025

This year was a HUGE year for Chequered Ink. It was the year we celebrated our 10th anniversary and, off the back of some success in late 2024, the year we vowed to give back to the community.

Back in January we set out our plans to make lots of new assets & tutorials, create more fonts and release at least two new games. Find out how we met those goals and more in a journey through everything we did in 2025.

We Released Thousands of Game Assets

As promised, we released thousands of sprites and hundreds of sound effects, culminating in the release of our 10,000 Game Assets Pack. We’ve covered a wide variety of genres and styles with most of our assets available 100% free for commercial use.

We Made 21 New Fonts

Everything we did in 2025 - all 21 new fonts Chequered Ink Released up to December 12th

After the success of our All Fonts Pack last December, we vowed to continue making lots of new fonts for use in your projects. They’re all added to the AFP gradually, meaning existing customers continue to get free updates.

You can see we released 21 fonts in a bunch of different styles over the last year, including pixel art, serif, grunge, brush strokes, blackletter and more!

Wrote 26 Game Development Tutorials

One way we wanted to give back to the community is by writing Game Development tutorials. Some of these came in the form of direct “How to” guides for our favorite program GameMaker.

We also published several game ideas articles that are universally relevant, regardless of your game engine, as well as a couple of marketing guides. We hope you’ve found them useful!

Launched 4 Brand New Games… Well, Mini-Games

Everything we did in 2025 - released four new games.

When we were talking about release two new games this year, we’ll admit we meant like, actual commercial releases. But we did so much other stuff this year that our longer-term projects took a bit of a back seat.

Nonetheless, we did release four little games this year – all little jam games or side projects. Most recently, Let Me Just Use This For A Second won 1st place in the GMC Jam – what a great way to end the year!

Revived Our Greatest Hits in Style

To celebrate our 10th anniversary back in June, we teamed up with Limited Run Games to create our Greatest Hits Tape. The tape-shaped USB breathed new life into 10 of our most popular PC games from the last decade, as well as giving access to all 1200+ of our commercial use fonts.

At the same time we also released a celebratory bundle of over 110 of our free games from our entire careers in game development – even before the existence of Chequered Ink.

Had a Blast with Nildigo (Coming in 2026)

This year Allison spent a lot of time working on our upcoming puzzle roguelite Nildigo. We took the game to Impact! and Bristol Indie Developers’ Playtest Party. It also featured in Yogscast’s Tiny Teams Festival and Steam Next Fest!

Nildigo now has over 1,000 wishlists on Steam and a free demo you can play right now. We’re planning to release in 2026, so pop it on your wishlist now ready for launch!

Towards the end of the year, we worked on porting the latest update of Keylocker to Nintendo Switch. It’s been a huge honour for us to work on Moonana Games’ Cyberpunk masterpiece – and the Heartstrings Update really gave the game a new lease of life on Nintendo Switch.

Thank You

Thank you for being a part of our lives in 2025. As you can see, we got a lot of things done. Our passion is making games, and we spent most of this year making it easier for others to realise that dream too.

We’ll continue to do that next year, with more assets and tutorials for use in your work. But we’ll also focus some more time on our own creations, with Nildigo well on its way to release and some other top secret projects floating around behind the scenes!

2026 is set to be an exciting year, keep a look out for more news from us soon. For now, enjoy your holiday season and thank you again for all your support over the last year.

All the best,

Daniel and Allison.
