We’ve just come back from another fantastic show at Impact! Indie Games, which took place for the third year in a row in sort-of-sunny Bristol.

In the past we’ve shown Cryptrio and Nildigo on the show floor, but this time around we went to support the other developers, play their games, and of course meet up with the wonderful cast of regulars who keep the show running!

As usual there were lots of innovative and interesting games on show, made by developers from Bristol, the South West and Wales.

This year there were a total of 10 games to play on the main floor from a wide variety of genres including platformers, a card game, puzzles and more.

The atmosphere at Impact! is always very chill and friendly. It was great to meet so many new faces this time around, but we also enjoyed catching up with the regular crew.

It’s funny, we’re based in Bristol but there’s a whole bunch of great people we only tend to see once a year at Impact.

Besides the games expo and the playtest table, the event also has a bunch of great talks and panels. The most interesting of these for me personally was the “fireside” chat featuring five of the developers from the show floor.

They answered questions of various things such as how they market their games, what success looks like, and how to fund game development in a time where publishers are holding the purse strings too tightly.

I managed to get around and play most of the games on show myself. They’re all worthy of a follow and a wishlist if you want to check out the full list here, but my personal favourite was Cards on the Table by Fishernaut Games.

The game sees you challenging various creepy characters to several hands of poker, but with a few twists and turns along the way. A public demo will be available soon™ so keep an eye out for that!

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Lyndy, Ash, Jonas and everyone else involved in running the show. It gets better every year, and we will definitely see you all again at Impact 2027!
