Moonana Games Announce New Vampire Soulsvania Game

Moonana Games, developers of Virgo vs The Zodiac and Keylocker, have just announced their latest game: Bathory – Heritage of Blood.

The announcement came as part of the Black Voices in Gaming Summer Game Fest Showcase.

In Bathory you play as Ursula, the vampire Princess, awakened from a centuries-long slumber to claim her throne of blood.

The game is heavily inspired by Castlevania but comes with a twist – all of your attacks cost your life. In the midst of combat, you’ll have to decide whether to launch a frenzied attack and risk your own life, or recover and approach battles in a more strategic way.

Thanks to our friends at Moonana, I’ve had the chance to get up close and personal with the game and try the demo myself.

The graphics are a gorgeous blend of delicate pixel-work and high resolution artworks shown off in character portraits and cutscenes. Meanwhile, I’d describe the game play in just three words: simple, classic, and fun.

If you like Metroidvanias, or really any action platformer, it’s definitely worth keeping this one on your radar.
